Ball State Math Dept iPad Meeting #1

iPad Mathematics Department Meeting - March 26, 2014
Holly, Crystal, Brian, John A., Janet, Kathy

We discussed what everyone was doing
Janet is projecting the 125 text, but is unable to view Visi
Janet is using a calculator app and a stats apps called Statistics Vizualizer (statviz), StatCalcLite, and the Blackboard app (works better on campus).
Crystal shared information on Aurasma.
Holly is making videos with Educreations and uploading to Bb.

Holly would like to find apps for Business Calculus.

Discussed
  • Blackboard - how to put hot links into a content area
  • Educreations - can add multiple pages with screenshots before recording and upload links to Internet.  Not sure if there are storage or bandwidth issues.

Tips for use
  • Tap text to select, copy and paste from one program to another.  This is important when sharing url’s.
  • Statistics apps need csv files that can be easily made in Excel.  These can also be made in Numbers (Apple’s Excel).

Suggested apps that were showcased
  • Bell Curve
  • Notability (not free but very good)

Kathy’s apps for this week include:
  • Genius Scan - take a picture with the camera and it is now a pdf file.
  • Myscript Calculator - handwriting calculator
  • Quick Graph - nice function grapher

Suggested courses from Lynda.com - Some of the chapters contain relevant information to our setting.  Click on Browse Library - Teacher Tools and then go down the list to iPad. BSU faculty and students have free access to Lynda, but must log in from the BSU website.

  • iPad Tips and Tricks
  • iPad Fundamentals

I am sure that there is something I forgot, or might not be accurate, so please use the comment box below to add information. Also, share tips, hints and GOOD APPS for us to check out.
